Touhou Koumakyou: New Classic - the Embodiment of Scarlet Devil

Touhou Koumakyou: New Classic - the Embodiment of Scarlet Devil is a vertical-scrolling 2D shoot-'em-up from developer 上海アリス幻樂団. It casts players as shrine maiden Reimu Hakurei or magician Marisa Kirisame, who set out from Hakurei Shrine and the Forest of Magic to resolve the Scarlet Mist incident in Gensokyou. Its strongest differentiator is the New Classic edition, whose every track is rearranged by ZUN. That edition also adds upscaled high-resolution graphics and a brand-new unlimited-lives mode. You dodge full-screen bullet barrages, use each character's unique shot types, and spend limited bombs while keeping your life count above zero. A Classic version recreates the original 2002 gameplay, with all text in Japanese.

Reimu Hakurei and Marisa Kirisame

Reimu Hakurei fights with high evasion capabilities and a wide attack range. Marisa Kirisame uses a combat style specialized in high firepower. During character select, you choose a shot type and a bomb type; each has its own characteristics. Some shots automatically home in on enemies, while others deliver superior firepower in a head-on assault. Controls include movement, standard Shot, limited-use Bomb, and Focus Mode for slower movement and finer control. Gamepad button assignments can be changed through Key Config in Options.

New Classic Edition Features

The New Classic edition is the core remaster. It features upscaled high-resolution graphics. Every music track is rearranged by ZUN. A brand-new mode lets you take on the challenge with unlimited lives. The title also includes a Classic version that recreates the original 2002 gameplay as closely as possible; all text in that version is in Japanese. It can only be purchased as part of a bundle, with the price the same and the Classic version included.
