Half-Life: Alyx

Half-Life: Alyx is Valve’s return to the Half-Life series, built exclusively for virtual reality. Set between the events of Half-Life and Half-Life 2, the game follows Alyx Vance and her father, Dr. Eli Vance, as they lead a fledgling resistance against the Combine, a brutal alien force tightening its grip on Earth. Combining intense combat, environmental puzzles, and deep world interaction, the game leverages VR to deliver a uniquely tactile experience, such as rummaging through shelves for supplies or physically hacking alien interfaces.

VR-Driven Gameplay Mechanics

Built entirely for virtual reality, Half-Life: Alyx transforms traditional gameplay into physical actions. Players can lean around cover for precise shots, manipulate objects like healing syringes and ammo, and use tools to solve puzzles or hack Combine technology. The tactile nature of VR extends to combat, where encounters demand quick thinking and physical engagement, such as throwing objects to distract enemies or tearing Headcrabs off your face.

Resistance and the Combine

Set in a Combine-occupied Earth, the game focuses on Alyx’s efforts to undermine the alien oppressors through clandestine research and sabotage. Key narrative moments are intertwined with gameplay, as players uncover weaknesses in the Combine’s control while scavenging for resources and building tools essential to the resistance's survival.

Community-Created Levels

Included with the game is an updated version of Hammer, Valve’s level creation tool, allowing players to design new environments tailored for VR. These creations can be shared via Steam Workshop, offering endless replayability as the community contributes fresh content built on the game’s Source 2 engine.
