DragonSword : Awakening

DragonSword: Awakening is an anime-style open-world action RPG from Hound13 Inc. Players follow Lute, a young boy traveling to Orbis, the first kingdom built by humankind, who joins mercenary Johnny and Elf Castella. Combat centers on tag-team parties of 19 Heroes who apply Status Ailments with Active Skills and chain Signal Skills. The differentiator is Switching Signals: heroes weave in and out of battle in combo chains. Players also cook, solve local problems, collect Familiars, and search for the Heroes of old as a Dragon returns after 60 years.

The Continent of Orbis

Orbis is the first kingdom built by humankind and the setting for Lute's journey. The open world includes meadows, secret cellars beneath watchtowers, deep seas, hidden caves, and dungeons, all traversed on foot. Cooking combines ingredients found across the continent to create dishes. Local residents give problems to solve, making the player a member of Orbis. Players travel with allies and collectible companions called Familiars. The cast includes an eccentric Elf who studies archaeology and a mysterious girl who traverses dimensions.

Status Ailments and Signal Skills

Combat in DragonSword: Awakening uses tag-team action built around Status Ailments. Each of the 19 Heroes has distinct Status Ailment abilities. Players stack Status Ailments with Active Skills, then chain combos with Signal Skills. Switching Signals let heroes weave in and out of battle in endless combo chains, so players build teams from diverse combinations. The system is the game's stated combat hook, not a generic action loop. This is described as "endless Signal Switching"; parties can craft stylish combat through timing and team composition.

The Six Heroes and the Returning Dragon

Long ago, a Dragon brought the continent to the brink of destruction, and six Heroes rose to stop it. Sixty years later, a Dragon has appeared again on Orbis. Lute's quest is to find the Heroes of old and confront the returning Dragon's threat. Tracing their footsteps across the continent uncovers hidden secrets. Factions have complex interests, and Heroes have hidden depths. The central question is whether Lute and his mercenary band can become the Dragon Sword, the Hero destined to save the continent, or whether fate leads elsewhere.
