Batman: Arkham Origins, developed by WB Games Montréal, is a prequel to the acclaimed Batman: Arkham series. Set several years before Batman: Arkham Asylum and Batman: Arkham City, the game explores a pivotal Christmas Eve where a young, unrefined Batman is hunted by eight lethal assassins, including Deathstroke and Firefly. With an expanded Gotham City to explore, this entry focuses on the early career of the Caped Crusader as he faces defining moments that shape his journey to becoming the Dark Knight. The game is single-player only, as the online services have been retired.

Arkham Origins tells a formative story of Batman’s early days as a crime fighter. The narrative unfolds as Black Mask places a bounty on Batman, drawing notorious villains like Bane, Deadshot, and Copperhead into the hunt. Players will encounter these iconic characters for the first time in the franchise, experiencing their roles in shaping Gotham’s dark future.

Enhanced Detective Mode and Crime Reconstruction

The game introduces a new Case File system that elevates Batman’s detective abilities. By combining his cowl sensors with the Batcomputer, players can digitally reconstruct crimes in real time, analyzing detailed simulations to solve seemingly impossible cases. This mechanic deepens the investigative aspect of gameplay, making players truly think like the World’s Greatest Detective.

Expanded FreeFlow Combat and New Gadgets

Arkham Origins builds on the series’ signature FreeFlow combat system with new enemy types like the Martial Artist and Armored Enforcer, requiring tactical approaches. Batman’s arsenal also expands with gadgets such as the Remote Claw, allowing players to create tightropes or string enemies up from vantage points, and the Concussion Detonator, which stuns groups of foes in close combat.
