Cargo Is the Biggest Change
Transport Fever 2 was created with a destination attached; in Transport Fever 3 the destination isn't attached. Freight sits at its origin waiting for you to pick it up, then travels where your line goes.
And warehouses are new. Warehouses exist to store and transfer goods and to freeze that delivery timer. Every type of cargo also has a delivery deadline, so late freight still gets paid but damages your town rating. Payment now reflects the complexity of a piece of cargo.

Cities Push Back
Town growth in Transport Fever 2 depended mainly on one satisfaction measure. Transport Fever 3 tracks several: wait times, delivery times, noise, pollution and reputation. Pollution is counted across a whole municipal area, so you can't simply route around a town.

A new company rank system ties growth to unlocks such as headquarters upgrades, landmarks and pollution control. One reviewer calls this the most interesting change and also the riskiest, because rating systems can add texture or turn into chores.
Better Building Tools
The road and track tools were rebuilt:
- intersections at any angle
- continuous build mode with live previews
- full lane control
- traffic lights you can move and retime
Vehicles now change lanes and overtake instead of queuing behind one slow truck. On the rail side, path-based signalling stays, so your habits still work. Trains now reserve routes further ahead, which prevents some single-track deadlocks.
The line manager is also improved. You can edit lines, stations and vehicles directly in the world, reorder stops by drag and drop, and compare vehicles by loading speed, comfort, noise and pollution.

Modular Stations and New Vehicles
Now stations are built from modules. But the larger ones are more noisy and polluting. The largest station is not any better.
Trams and cargo trams make their debut. Dedicated public tram tracks, light rail integration and underground tram corridors are also seen for the first time.

A More Dynamic World
Maps use node-based generation, so biomes blend into each other, and you set the mix with sliders. There is also a full day-night cycle, dynamic weather and a new campaign with eight historical missions. The day-night cycle is cosmetic and doesn't change demand.
What Doesn't Carry Over
- Saves: no official source confirms that Transport Fever 2 saves load. Treat them as not supported.
- Mods: the Steam Workshop is gone. Transport Fever 3 uses a cross-platform mod.io browser, and Transport Fever 2 mods aren't directly compatible.
- Timetables: they aren't included. Train priorities replace them.
Is It Worth the Upgrade?
Reactions are divided. Some players called it "Transport Fever 2. 5" with better graphics, others say 4 cargo deadlines, warehouses, and why the maintenance coverage dictates how you plan your network.

Upgrade if you have hundreds of hours in Transport Fever 2 and you enjoy the depth of logistics. Wait if you played more casually for relaxation as the new pressures may be not the best for you. Beginners can start with Transport Fever 2 on sale.
Transport Fever 2 players receive a 10% loyalty discount on the same platform. It is available until approximately mid-October, so be sure to check out the store for the specific date.
Conclusion
Transport Fever 3 tightens the systems veterans knew best: cargo, cities and construction. Deadlines, warehouses and multi-part town ratings make it a tougher logistics puzzle, with better tools to manage it. If you loved that side of Transport Fever 2, the upgrade is worth it, and owners get 10% off. Casual players may find it too demanding.
